The Painterly Medium

Jorinde Voigt’s work is shaped through spatial qualities & relationships between line, shapes, multiplicities and continuous variations. By 3D modelling her painting ‘10am to 7pm’, I aim to express pertinent attributes of form and texture with an emphasis on painterly digital techniques within the medium specificity of the digital software space.

I was interested in the notion of a ‘Duality’. Duality as observed through the contrast in the characteristics within the model : some created through intuitively charged impulses while others more methodically composed. The model is composed of an organic outer skin, containing textural transitions & variations through folds, scales, bumps, crevasses, ripples & a multitude of tactile surface qualities. This impulsively charged exterior leads into a structured interior configuration, which on the other hand is refined, polished & cultivated as observed in Jorinde Voigt’s painting. This transition from textural variation to a polished interiority expresses my notion towards of duality; the model as a result of sensual impulses that constantly strive for order.
