Field Conditions

The design begins with a set of (found) cast iron parts. These parts are then placed in a larger field analogous to an urban condition. Through various methods of inversion, subtraction, and displacement, those original pieces find ways of being placed in “dialogue” ; formally, spatially and materially within the field.

Another pertinent addition to the design is the introduction of “faux” elements, used in combination with the original cast iron elements. The idea is to create a sense of ambiguity between the two, as the faux take on hyper-real characteristics. As a result the characteristics of the original iron pieces take on more curiously faux character achieved through polishing, 3D printing and plating.
